PONOMAR WAS CLOSE TO VICTORY AT TROFEO CITTA’ DI BRESCIA

The Lombardy night race saw the Ukrainian rider, back to racing after more than three months, finishing in 2nd place just behind Manuel Oioli.

Brescia, 2 July 2024 – The classic Trofeo Città di Brescia, a race that takes place at night on a city circuit through the streets of Lombardy’s city, saw Andrii Ponomar, returning from an injury that kept him out of races for more than three months, take second place.

The Ukrainian rider promoted the decisive action, selecting the small group of which he was part with an attack with just under 30 km to go to which only Federico Guzzo, winner of the 2023 edition, and Manuel Oioli responded. The trio arrived together until the final climb, where Oioli was able to beat Ponomar at the sprint.

“It was my first race after three months of stop, my main goal was to try to finish it and instead I found myself in the decisive action. I felt I had a good leg, and I was amazed given the difficulty of the circuit, with its ups and downs and many bends. When I attacked I even thought I could win, but Oioli was faster. I am very happy with this comeback”.

The good team performance of the Team corratec – Vini Fantini is confirmed by the 5th place of Kyrylo Tsarenko. Next race for the team, starting on 6 July, will be the Sibiu Cycling Tour.
